    8. College, the Cost that Never Ends

    Now that Ted has graduated, his fraternity has surprised him with a $866.50 dues invoice for March last year. Neither my 23-year old nor I ever got the invoice. Ted has loans to pay off and a used car that needs fixing. And as for me, I'm always thrilled to get a $866.50 surprise invoice. I demanded a complete accounting, evidence the invoice was sent, threatened to file a complaint for violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practice Act, and essentially told them to go to h-ll. At least when Dad, Esq., is your lawyer, there are no legal fees.
